In the light of the latest government advice we have now decided to close our lunch clubs for the foreseeable future. We are really sorry to do this but we believe it is in the best interests of our club members.

However, we will keep in regular contact with members and their families to provide all possible support until the crisis is over.

In the light of the threat of coronavirus, we have been reviewing whether we should continue to run our lunch clubs.

We are very aware that our clients are all particularly vulnerable to the effects of the virus. But while the situation is constantly changing, the government is not currently advising older people to stay at home unless they are exhibiting symptoms of cold and flu. We also recognise how much our clients value attending our clubs.

While the government seems likely to decide in the near future to issue new guidance to older people, our immediate plan is for clubs to stay open for those who want to attend. Ultimately the decision to attend is for the individuals involved, supported by appropriate family members - and we'll be actively consulting members and families on a regular basis.

At the same time we will be asking any members or volunteers who are experiencing cold or flu symptoms to stay at home.

We will obviously be keeping the situation under constant review.

Phew! What a busy couple of weeks we have had in the run up to Christmas. We've had Christmas outings and have Christmas parties this week. We have also enjoyed some lovely nostalgic sessions with Terri and Irene of Tea & Memories. Many thanks to our sponsors, Nothwood, A Plan Insurance and The Mortgage Store for enabling us to have these special sessions.

We will be closed over the Christmas and New Year period; our first club of 2020 will be on Friday 3rd January.

Finally, on behalf of us all at Age Concern St Albans, we would like to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and we look forward to 2020!

Have you spotted the lovely yarnbombed postboxes around St Albans? We are delighted to be involved this year with this fabulous local inititative, and a third of the money raised from donations coming to Age Concern St Albans. Thank you to everyone involved and to everyone who donates, either their time in making these lovely things or their money. It makes such a big difference to a small charity like ours.

Check out our facebook page or St Albans Postboxes (either on facebook or their website www.stalbanspostboxes.org.uk) for more details and lots of photos.

Look out for "our" special post box topper - a red ponsettia flower, on top tof the postbox at the end of Manor Road..
